No that video is actually helpful. First things that jumps out is when she opens it looks like she stays open. The biggest thing IMO causing her lean, which is pretty bad, is her front leg collapses after it makes contact there is no resistance as a result her whole body has to follow, with a good push off nobody's core is strong enough to stay straight while trying to pitch against no resistance (of course this could be a chicken and eggs thing with her upper body coming all the way forward her front leg can't offer enough resistance). I would do lots of dry drills (or just into a net a couple feet in front of her we don't care where the ball goes for now) where she pushes off and stays on her back toe and laces to catcher, works the knee close to parallel, (per Amanda's video) keeps her chin up and lands on her front leg and then provides immediate resistance and stays straight and tall.

Our goal is to look like this (they don't have their noses in the air because they are stuck up prima donas it good form ;) : finch4.JPGamanda kick the bucket.JPG

Lots going on here McE. Good news is she's in 12u so PLENTY of time to fix things. Unlike most PC's, I would work from the top down with her. She's using HE. Getting Zero whip. Start working on IR drills. Lock it in being the first one. Then have her start throwing from a pitcher's mound. Virtually impossible to pitch from the position she ends up in when she is going downhill. It will force her to stay back or she will fall on her face. Lastly she needs a more explosive drive. She's using her stride leg to propel her off the pitcher's plate instead of her drive leg. Flamingo drills. Jump back drills. The 2 step drill. She needs to feel what driving off with her drive foot feels like.

Thanks. Lot of things to consider with all the advice.

Does anyone have good contact info for coaches who primarily teach IR style in South Houston area?

I apologize, I didn't read all 4 pages of this so pardon me if it's been said already: the #1 cause for a lean forward is the front knee bending. Straighten that, the body will erect itself. STRAIGHT, not LOCKED. Nothing should be locked out. She may need verbal cues like, keep the chin behind the bellybutton at release.

For Houston, Bobby Smith is the man. Was a great pitcher in his youth (still pitches in the over 60 divisions) and Cat Osterman says he is the difference in what separated her from other pitchers.

Small world. I noticed your name on several posts on this forum and found your website. At the risk of self promotion, which one of your digital videos (building the house or 101) would be a good primer to get things started in the right direction with IR? Thanks in advance.
