FFS, as an FYI, I tried to load a few things BUT my computer just won't. It is on it's last leg and so, everytime I tried to access video, I have to restart. Good new though. I have a new Computer on the way. Sidenote - computer is to ship in 5-7 days. I ordered it two days ago. Presently, the date listed for shipping is September 13th. ...and I thought I was bad at math. FFS, I believe you supplied the video on Gomez and so should have it. Again, if Howard's approach isn't your cup of tea, please let us know exactly the steps you'd take with this young lady. I'm looking forward to that. As I tell my students, "some meat and tadies are on the way."

It pretty much was included in my statement. You've read a lot and been involved in the arguments about "Elvis." Take a look at the relationship of knees and the stride out. I will admit that this is backside video and so not the best for what I am looking at.

Look up the Gomes video from U.LL to get a sense.

Now, what do you do with this hitter. Please advise as if you were giving the lesson.

I've generally related the "Elvis" to the rear leg action. I was wondering if you really meant the loading of the rear side.

Me? What would I do with this hitter?

I’d first review ‘coil’. She's leaving a lot on the table from the very beginning. This portion of her swing could be significantly enhanced from where it is in this video. From there I would do as LC suggested and work on separation …. I’d build the ‘stretch’ into her swing …. And if she didn’t do it naturally, then I’d review a “bow & arrow” like pull back and see if we could get her to feel the “poke”. I wouldn’t make it overly complicated for this girl ... at least not at this point in time .... mainly because I feel that with the addition of some basics that this girl could be improved significantly. Teach her to Coil …. to Stretch …. and to Fire. Allow her to enjoy an enhanced swing .... then review it and define points-of-emphasis based on what areas could be further improved on.

I truly believe this girl could benefit significantly with an approach that would have things kept simple.

Congrats on getting a new computer.

I'm not completely sure what you mean about Howard's approach not being my cup of tea. Let me be very clear ...... I don't treat ANYONE above verification ..... and by that I mean that I look for confirmation in terms of video analysis amongst the games better hitters .... think in terms of the Hanson Principle.

IMO, Howard has some good material. That said ... anything I would use from Howard, or ANYONE for that matter, would need to be something that I could verify ... or at least not refute through video analysis.

Make sense?

Thanks for the congrats on the new computer. I had them send the bill to you.

... and now for those meat and taties. What is the approach you would take with SL's daughter?

Amy did you get your answer?

Hopefully Amy will forgive me if I'm off on this one. I believe the point of the question was to point out the irony of you using a video clip of one of Howards students to demonstrate what he should do with his student in the video. I rather enjoyed it, if it wasn't intentional.

I think you missed my post above. You mentioned working on the front side load ... I went more towards what LC recommended, but not until addressing her coil. See the above post.

Ironic indeed. I find it amazing how so many people use Crystals video clip to show what a great hitter does and then describes what she is doing. May be a case of what a hitter thinks they do and what they actually do are two different things, I have heard all those arguements. But I have taken my daughter to one of Crystal and Howards clinics and what she says she thinks of when working on her swing sure ain't what you guys say she is doing. No top hand torque, no scapula loading, no sublimating, pronating, or whatever the hell it is. She does talk about importance of elbows working as a unit, pulling knob parallel to contact, and releasing bat head to the ball. Very entertaining to read opinions on what she is doing or thinking, when I heard it straight from her, and most of it contradicts.

I knew she knew the answer to the question she asked. My using Crystal was intentional.

My using Crystal was to point out to others that Howard's methods seem to be in question and that his work has produced results that aint too shabby.

My post regarding straightleg's daughter was to point out there must be something in the way of progress or they likely wouldn't be putting them up----and I speculated as to where she "may have been." And there's another thing---- I like a lot of what I see in that soft toss clip.

My response to Amy was simply to find out if she was asking a rhetorical question. She asked me this;
lclifton, I was wondering, who is Bustos hitting coach?

Maybe, if she knows and thought I didn't know, could've just said, "Did you know that Howard trained Bustos?"

So you see, it was---- and is----- a compliment in total to the teachings of one Howard C.

If he were still posting here, I'm sure he'd share what the next level is for this young lady.
Since he's not, I'm certain of one thing----She's under quite nice "care".

Posting the clip of Bustos was to highlight a swing that is a good one to emulate and to demonstrate that his teaching is obviously "sound" / result producing / and just plain fun to witness.

Oh that's a good point Daddy O. When I commented that perhaps the young hitters next step was to "take the hands back while striding forward"---Crystal did speak (when I heard her) of separation. So, fortunately I have all my notes from that very informative day.
