I think it would be really tough to give the losing team the option. Even if you’re completely overmatched, admitting so and asking for ‘mercy’ is much harder than a run rule where the outcome is predetermined based on the score alone.

Even the lowest skilled team is made up of competitors, asking them to say ‘No Más’ after a drubbing is just rubbing salt in the wound. There are plenty of times when two teams that don’t belong on the same field meet, best to end it quickly and move on.

LOL your arrogance has gone over the top if you think in any way I would play the victim. I think you're inappropriate a lot of times and this is one of them.
You obviously have a personal Vendetta about something that has nothing to do with me personally because you don't know me this is about softball. Stop being a backbiter
You seem nice enough..I call everybody out if I smell BS. I guess you can call that a Vendetta.

I get called plenty of names on here, perhaps justifiably sometimes, but I don’t go and write a War and Peace post complaining about it. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Well this blew up.

The Mercy rule in youth sports is probably just as much for the parents as it is for the kids.

Thank you I try to resemble some sort of nice LOL. And I understand about you wanted to call out BS but don't make it personal.

By the way sometimes I bring up topics that are just topics not my personal opinion. Nor my opinion of how I would handle it, it's just perspective. Try not to attack the messenger...
when it's just a topic.

Again I say to you try to have a good day.

I was thinking about the Mercy Rule the other day. In college it's 8 runs after 5 innings. I think that number is way too low in this day and age of offense. Back in the early days when Rad was playing, the pitchers dominated and scores were 1-0 it makes sense.
Can remember they created International tiebreaker rule because we had so many extra-inning games from low scores 0-0, 1-1.

Try not to attack the messenger when it's just a topic. don't take it personal it's just a topic not directed at you. No need to make it personal by attacking the messenger in such the ways you do.
This is the last time hopefully I have to encounter discussing that with you and not tearing apart discussion topics with unnecessary Trainwreck.

Again I say to you try to have a good day.
Lady you are not my mother, she passed away a few years ago. If you don’t like my comments ignore them since you don’t like arguing..I on the other hand find it highly amusing.

I think the semantics do make a difference. Mercy rule is humanistic, with one side taking pity on the other. Run rule is unfeeling; the conditions of the rule have been met, therefore this is the result.

The semantics are why nobody calls it the Slaughter rule anymore, but let's be honest, it's the best way to describe what happened.

To RAD, there have been a few games where we've been down big and I can't wait to get to the run rule. If we're down 9 runs in the 5th and it's 40 degrees out, yeah, I'm hoping we give up that one more run so we can all get the hell out of there.

Softball players are not delicate flowers who are going to be forever scarred because somebody called their loss a "Mercy Rule"..
