What 260' looks like

Are all hits created equal?
Are miss hits just as valid as a solid hit?
Talking about any miss hit or solid hit that gets a batter on base... or maybe turns out to be a homerun!!!
Are all hits created equal?
Or should there be a separate average and determination for a miss hit versus a solid hit?

Hmmm a miss hit batting average?

Enjoy!

You extrapolated badly from our conversation...I wasn't proposing the whole sport be changed.

it all depends on what you are doing with the assessment of the hit.

Ultimately the outcome of the play determines if two different hits are equal or not. A blooper in gap that allows a runner to advance 2 bases is better than a screaming line drive single that only allows base runners to advance 1 base.

However, long term the hard hit outs vs soft hits levels out.

For my young daughters, many outs on balls in play are better than some of their hits. As they develop and improve their swings it's great to see them "do it right" in a game, regardless of the outcome.

I personally think that scoring rules are archaic. With electronic scoring that we have today there is the potential to really make stats that are useful. The concept of team errors, half errors and "lucky" hits are a possibility. It takes a really good scored in concert with the coach to make it work but I do think that information is the future.

So a good hit ball that ends as an out is a hit?

Don't have that answer, but was replying to the idea of hits being scored differently base on the type of hit. By that reasoning, outs would need to be scored differently. Don't think you should do either.
