Understanding the stages and advances hitting, it can get very complex. Some here are very knowledgeable and approach things from a very advanced position.

That drill can fix some things. Is it High Level? NO. sequence is not included. It will help though. do it once, remove stick, start advancing.

This is what some are more into. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BS5CzgXRwf4

im going to add as edit. I work with some very new low level kids. ALL ARMS. The first thing i do is make them use the body to turn the bat. LOL they cannot hit the ball 5 feet at first. fix front elbow, use hitters box method, tilt like in the disputed clip, move on.

Thanks W=w, really appreciate yho on this and reasons why you (not FFS) believe this isn't a good drill. I am intrigued, do you know a drill that promotes setting direction with hands/eyes.. specifically eyes? Also, staying tall has really helped my DD tons, maybe because she doesn't have the opportunity to get tall from sitting too early, :).

In reality, the eyes set the swing. So a moving ball is the best drill around. ‘Brisk’ walk up front toss while not knowing where the pitch is would be where I would start. See how your student sets her direction to said pitch. Video if your not sure.

The reason for the walk up installation would get her to feel her body releasing fully. To understand what a good shift, sequence feels like. If a hitter shifts correctly and at the right time. You are more then halfway to a GOOD swing.

As far as mechanical stuff. I would pick a method you understand or believe in and go with it. Learn everything you can about it. There will be potholes, have good shocks. Some work from the barrel. Some work from the hands. But every great hitter you see will have a great weight shift done dynamically and on time with adjustability.

^^^^^^ the last part is the secret sauce imo.

Tnanks for the advice DR, :) .. now back to my question for you..

"Help me out here.. what's the issue with this drill if the tee is moved through out the zone, high inside/outside, low inside/outside.. etc"
Oh good gosh...I can't take it any longer...Ahhhh!!

Julray, that drill is a shoulder(s) driven (intent or focused) to the ball drill, and not how a hitter should be getting to a ball down in the zone. If we preach/believe that the hips lead the hands ("hips then hands")...then why use a drill that has them use/take their shoulder(s) to the ball first, and/or ahead of the hips (not to mention completely remove the hands)?

Hope that helps, and I'm back on outta here while your inquisition continues...good luck with that. :)

This girl performs the drill much better than most demonstrations I've seen of this drill. Generally the result is as MB describes ... it tends to promote a shoulder driven swing.

Taken outta context it won’t(wrong pitch local with gifs). But ‘showing’ said player to not dip there chest over the plate ‘too’ much will on an low and away pitch. Comprend eveything first, before you comment to not muddy said waters.
