Making her cry/embarrassing her (and the rest of my family) was the issue..I still get
upset thinking about it which I guess is good since it will keep me from doing it again.
I was like you (never got thrown out though). My DR was in 8th grade game when a real good pitcher smoked a strike three right down the middle with DD's bat in her shoulder. I sent her the video of it with the message " how did you let this go by". I saw how upset she was when she walked back to dugout, and even more upset when she watched video. Then and there I felt like the biggest rear and that was my "serenity now" moment. I've never said anything negative to her since, only positive thoughts. I can now sit at her games and not worry about an error she made or strikeout. It's great, I feel so good being able to enjoy her game, win or lose, you should try it.

I haven't done anything like that since and keep my mouth shut but the bold above is going to take more work. I've had issues with that since my own playing days and because of what it did to my career I should know better but apparently knowing and doing are two different things in my case.

I believe your daughter is still young patter brother, therefore you got ALOT of softball left. You'll come around to my view sooner or later, hopefully sooner, so you can have many years of enjoyment instead of stress and frustration.

Yes she is only 10. Believe me it is my greatest wish to be carefree at a game and if I could just flip a switch and do it I would. Keeping my mouth shut and being supportive to her I am doing but changing how I internalize things is going to take time. To be honest this time off may help things as I am just missing see her out on the field. Hopefully that feeling carries over to when she starts playing again.

It helped me relax a ton when my DD got on a team where she wasn't the best (non pitcher) player. She was the oldest, had the best arm, the best glove, the biggest bat. I don't think she felt it, but I felt like she needed to always be her absolute best to carry the team, and it made it stressful to watch, and I put undue pressure on her. I only remember yelling at her from the stands on one occasion, but I'm embarrassed by it. She's on a team now where there are better players. She's near the top (when her head isn't up her butt), but not a standout. I find it much easier to watch her now that she is more of a role player.

So much for a thread about great softball stories. Can we get a do-over? :poop:
Well lets hear one Bob.....I'd give you one, but even after watching my DD play over 6 years of softball, I really can't come up with one that stands out.

We all can give plenty of stories on how our DD did something to win the big game (I got a couple of tho se) but I like to see stories like patter and how he got thrown out.
