I don't see it in the white uniform gif. If you do have a picture or video of his weight back like that, it is a mistake or balance issue on his part. What is really happening and what is taught, is for the weight on the rear leg to be on the complete instep of the rear foot, not just the big toe/ball of foot area. I teach my kids to keep the weight on the instep of the entire rear foot as long as possible until rotation moves it.

Does Andrew raise his toes on every swing (sitting on his heels)?

If you zoom in on the rear foot (white uni gif) you will see what is really happening.

Tough to see if his rear heel is planted from the angles of the other gifs.

I agree with what you teach.

I was asked to add this...

</video>

A little improvement on the attack angle and that ball would have been a nice fade shot over the centerfield wall.

(Same as shown above. Sorry, I don't know how to re-embed it. :rolleyes:)

Thanks Lewis.

I asked Lewis to post the following swing. Certainly not an attempt to hijack a nice thread with some already great slo-mo examples. Although it is a far-from-perfect vantage point video-wise, I thought of it as simply an example from fastball, in addition to the MLB baseball swings.

Elite-level hitters is what you have with Mike Trout & Andrew McCutchin. In adding the example of Mark Sorenson, you have an apple-to-apple comparison opportunity between a MLB player and "MLS" fastball hitter. Mark is widely considered (in our small little world) as the most accomplished fastpitch hitter of any generation.

If anyone interested in slo-mo'ing, please feel free.

As far as the glass wipe - if your front hip is returning to the glass and the rear hip is resisting coming off the glass the rear hip is actually pulling back even more. I was originally agreeing that the rear hip would have to lessen it's resistance but after trying it a couple of times - I feel like the rear hip needs to increase it's resistance to stay on the glass/wall. Which is essentially the held ER. Just using the rear hip does not get the front rear cheek to come back to the wall unless you spin off the wall with the rear one. More sagittal action. Both hips are important.

The cue has always been "the hips try not to rotate" when they do try its UNCoil.

It lessens the explosive and sudden change of direction
I was having a hard time understanding how the golfer applied to hitting. This helped me understand what the golfer was suggesting.
