Haven't done a 1-day full tourney. 5 or 6 games in a single day is a lot to do. That said, we do the 3 game round robins, especially in fall and early spring. Playing in one on Sunday, and it will be the first games for this group. Relatively inexpensive way to get some games in, and not spending a full tournament entry fee to knock the rust off.

just finished one, was only three teams, round robin pool play, 2 games each team, 2 v 3, then winner v 1. was pretty good day, every team got a one game break in there unless team idle for first game ended up as 2 or 3 (then they could have played 3 in a row, but still breather between pool and bracket to give tournament time to officially seed the teams, even though everyone knew really). only downer was DD had to catch 3.5 games in unseasonably hot late day for late sept.

That part in particular. I think one of the biggest problems with tournaments in this area is that they are trying to cram in as many teams as possible. Set your target number of teams and CUT IT OFF once you reach that number.

It allows you to better manage things and if you do a good job, it creates demand and interest in your tournament.
This right here is it. Set your number of teams and cut if off once reached. Too many of these tournaments, put too many teams on the list to manage.
