If you are a school coach, it doesn’t matter if they are your daughters. You shouldn’t have taken them to the school field.

If you are not a school coach, no big deal.

We just left our local high schools batting cage. It was myself, my daughter and my son. I don't see any difference if we are at the high school batting cage or if we are out in the front yard shooting hoops.

Big difference if you are in your yard versus THE SCHOOL’S batting cage.

On Sunday the district sent out this message,

"Here is the message that I received from --- Athletics ; the governing body for interscholastic athletics.

With the closing of schools by order of the County Executive, no practices are allowed for the next two weeks. Practices may resume on ----.
Scrimmages and games may resume on ----. This could be adjusted depending on changing circumstances.

No practices of any kind, with or without coaches are permitted.
"

Yesterday I took my DDs, a freshmen and junior, to practice at the school field. An hour after we returned home this message was posted,

"Yesterday a message was sent out that schools are closed for ---. Teams and individuals should not be practicing. This includes team captains holding a practice.
No practices of any kind, with or without a coach. Avoid close contact with other individuals. Parents encourage your children to stay home and not come up to the high school and practice with their friends
."

I wear a distinctive jacket, been told it is my trademark. I think anyone who could've sent out that second message would know it is me with my DDs. Do they think it is more of a problem for my DDs to be throwing around a softball then sharing a kitchen space in the house?

I called our state hotline to confirm there are no red flags for sisters to be going outside and practice, away from other people.

Am I missing something?

It sounds like the school doesn’t want anybody on school grounds students or not.
Find a rec field close by. There must be LL fields or fields used for slowpitch you can utilize.
Worst case scenario work in your yard if you have space.
No reason small groups 10 or less can’t practice in an unofficial capacity
Parents and kids should be practicing if nothing else to avoid cabin fever..

No HS players are allowed to use any school facility including our two outdoor cages. I am confounded by this since it is open to the public all year around. I am staying away from all facilities since I don't want to be "turned in" for anything.

Same thing here. HS field facilities are open to the general public all year round. There were adults walking the track as usual while DDs were there practicing softball.

I've also decided to stay away from our HS fields for the duration.

Well the track wasn't closed. The usual track walkers were doing their thing.

We had no problem finding an alternate field today. DDs just prefer their home field.

I absolutely want my DDs to be out there doing something, anything, it doesn't have to be softball. That they want it to be softball is great.

That makes no sense. You can walk the track but can’t use the softball field? Your much more likely to come in close contact with a stranger walking the track than practicing with your girls.
The entrances to the school should be blocked and proper signage posted if their serious about keeping people safe and off school grounds.
It’s good you found a place to practice.

Ha! I know that feeling!

I had to tint my truck windows so I could slow roll the field and evaluate how soon it “looks like they will be done!”
