Are New Balls Slick?

They are absolute turds. The surface breaks really easily if they hit a wall or something They get super slick and I swear the shrink a little. And they go dead really fast. They're like one step above one of the Dick's branded practice balls.

I’m not even sure about that.

These dicks balls are probably 3 years old and the Rawlings are less than a year.

Yes- now that I know better I will buy better balls.

I've seen the ones from Dick's warp after one hit. I smacked one in old man slowpitch practice, and by the time it hit the ground it was wobbly. Throw only, or like...8U is the only safe place for them.

New balls, even Dudley, are slick and need to rubbed up before they are put in play just like baseballs. On dirt fields just grab some dirt or roll the ball on the ground. On turf you can be in a pickle.

I have seen the ump reach a new ball to the catcher and the catcher roll it on the dirt to the pitcher instead of throwing it to try to scuff it a little.
