Damn, and I thought it was a perfect swing, ..lol. That parts obvious, I was wondering why you believe it's easier to turn the barrel on a higher tee? And no ceiling??

Put the tee on something (I used to put it on a bucket for my then 4'5" daughter and have her hit with the tee at shoulder level) and try it is my best answer. First you won't be able to drop your hands. You will be forced to keep your hands near your shoulder as you swing and that should help a lot with the feel of having to use your hands to turn the barrel.

How do I get the bat on plane after this initial (ferris wheel) movement to hit a ball a shoulder level height. In the video the ball is at thigh level, but still I don't understand how a batter can adjust to a ball at shoulder height or even difficult at the top of the strike zone with this initial type of movement.

That's the issue my DD had last year.. her barrel was getting below the ball because she was trying to turn the barrel.. she couldn't recover from it. I am not questioning the method.. but my understanding of it is certainly flawed.

Julray, I believe that you are confused on what is meant by "Ferris Wheel". Ferris Wheel is NOT talking about bat path but more about the way the body moves "Lateral Tilt" "Pulling Rear Leg". The first swing you took was a shoulder driven swing. The second did look like the body reacted to the hands though. I think you didn't have any direction in either swing though. IOW you were just trying to make contact with the ball which will probably just make things harder to figure out. To me the problem is that you took the Flight of stairs down to the ball instead of taking the Spiral Staircase. If I were you I would try playing around with different types of "tipping of the barrel". I would also study up on "Running Start" or "Float" same thing different words, because that may be a big help to you. Just my $.02 best of luck to you and keep swinging.

Julray, as far as your DD hitting below the ball, tell her to do the same exact movement but to lift her hands up. It will take some getting adjustment to and it feels weird until you get used to it.

Shoulder level is a bit of an exaggeration. My DD used to drop her hands a bunch when she was 6 so I would use the high tee drill.

Take a look at Cabrera hitting this high and outside intentional pitch. Granted he knew where it would be but just watch his bat path. The amount of tilt/shoulder angle/bat angle TM has in that video is for a low (er) pitch.

I thought ferris wheel referred to how the bat arcs during the initial turn of the barrel? Instead of the bat being swung around your body (merry go round).. the bat arcs initially in a ferris wheel type pattern

Yes you are correct, if you swing around your body that would be the merry go round, picture Stanton's swing wrt how his body moves, his upper body mainly & compared to lets say Miggy. Miggy doesn't unload the way Stanton does some may say that Stanton unloads to swing & Miggy swings to load.... Or Miggy has two pivot points working against each other. That is what's meant by Ferris Wheel two pivot points working against each other. You will also need to load correctly if you want your body to react a certain way to your hands.

Edit to add: Turning The Barrel to me is just part of the loading process that many amateurs bypass.

I am only talking about one pivot point.. The arc of the bat from launch when turning the barrel is like that of a ferris wheel.. that's my understanding. I am not worried about loading or anything else right now, just turning the barrel. Did you say turning the barrel is part of the loading process?

The bat doesn’t have to be vertical like a Ferris Wheel if that is your understanding? You asked how can you get to a high tee while Ferris Wheeling.... I was just trying to say that “Ferris Wheel” is actually about the torso not the bat...... Yes I believe turning the barrel to be a part of the loading process or at least the beginning of it is ....... If you are not worried about loading how are you setting up...... are you coiling, are you pulling back....... or are you just standing there and trying to turn the barrel?
