Anyone have any good drills to work on slapping?

We use a tee, front toss and place a tee along a straight fence and use the fence line as a reference to stepping straight at the pitcher?

Got in too big a hurry, can some one change the title to (Any good drills for slapping?).

I give over 300 slap lessons per year as a hobby. I have my notes, including some drills in some pdf files and powerpoint which are too big to post on forum. Be happy to email. My email is slaphit@aol.com.

Thanks, go4um I've had a kid ask me for some help on her slapping, I know the basics, but could use some help with the more advanced techniques and some additional drills.

My email is (peppers@cattle-today.com).

You can google and get free about everything Larry Ray has. Been doing this for around 6 years and bought about every CD I could find. Plus got to work with some of our team USA players on slapping. First trick is get down the footwork and the type of footwork your dd is going to use. We went with the cross over instead of the drop step. We did this based on feedback from two olympic coaches that had worked with some of the best slappers in the world. We were lucky they gave my dd a lesson and we switched. Howard uses TCB balls mixed with regular softballs to teach the down slap, or what some call the Watley since she made it famous. The dd can hit them so hard that they now hit the top of the net, because the TCB balls force you to keep the bat on the ball longer. If you watched college regional play you noticed kids are taking advantage if the field is hard. She takes a T and some cones and sets them as targets. If you don,t have cones, use old milk jugs. You can do this in your yard or in our case we have a hitting area that I give lessons in my basement. Slapping is placing the ball in the correct spot and taking what the defense will give you. There are many types of slaps. Hard, soft, Duck , power, just to name a few. The dd was taught to hit first then slap and bunt from the left side. We struggled for about one year. If you have speed it is just another weapon to use. Learning to hit the ball away from the sweet spot is another thing you need to teach. We put white tape on the sweet spot area of the bat and it leaves a mark if you hit in that area. You want to hit toward the end of the bat, which makes the ball on a soft slap or bunt dead. Some teach toward the hands, but you take a risk of injury if your judgement is not good.

SB

This young lady was taught the drop back and IMO the crossover is better, Watley is the one I’ve been studding on utube IMO she is so smooth in her mechanics.

I’m going to try and change her to crossover I like the suggestion of the TCB balls, never thought of that. No one asked me for help on slapping before, just trying to learn to give this young lady a good start.

Thanks.
