Suspending her several games or cutting her all together would be reasonable.

What about the girl who refused to catch with her? That's BS. That's not how teammates treat each other. I'd suspend her a game as well.

Nothing to do with your question. But a shouldn't the 10U rep NOT be a coach/manager/parent in the 10U division? Seems like it puts you in a bad spot (and, just by the facts of it, puts you in a bad position if anyone were to question moves you made).

When leagues are dependent on volunteers, sometimes there aren't enough bodies to fill all the positions.

At older ages I think the girl has to go. At 10U, I think there can be some grace if you feel like the girl can benefit from being around a positive environment but she should not return to play until the girl who was injured returns. If it's all season, so be it.

Kicking her off the team is the easy answer. I think the right answer is suspending her for a period of time. She is 10 and has the ability to learn better behavior and how to handle emotions. Kicking her off the team is just giving up on her.

I would remove her from the team, but that's just me.

For reference, a minor league pitcher recently threw a ball at a player during a benches clearing altercation and received a 30 day suspension. The player got that 30 day suspension and he missed when throwing the ball. If he would have hurt another player who knows how long the suspension would have been.

In general, I agree that if you're looking out for the best interests of the thrower, kicking her off the team is not the best answer. But what about the kid who got hit? If DD were in that situation, and I had a coach telling me that it's best for this player to stay on the team with my kid, I wouldn't be impressed and I'd be looking for another league/team ASAP.

I do agree that the girl shouldn't have refused to play catch with the thrower, but to me that's a separate issue from getting beaned by a teammate.
