Right. I actually believe that weighted balls can help with command as the body has to adapt to the different weights.

Yes. I also have a 14 inch ball. It weighs more as well as being bigger. The added surface is good for working on different spins as well as ball position (you have more awareness). I have the 8 through 12 ounce balls too, along with all the under weight balls I mentioned.

Funny my DD has amazing form and mechanics w a weighted ball but not so great with a regular ball! Go figure!

Weighted balls are often used to help a pitcher understand and improve whip. The added weight working with gravity create that feeling. In addition,, assuming acceleration stays the same, the increased weight creates more force (F=ma)

From my experience , the arm move faster than the legs. With my students , I'm not as much trying to speed up the arm circle as much as I'm trying to sync the legs to the fastest arm circle as possible. A lot of pitchers hand is by the hip as the front foot loads. leaving some possible speed behind and a posture that doesn't have a firm foundation.
Great point!

Speaking of body and release awareness, try having them pitch with a baseball. After the first few go over the catchers head, they start to adjust. Just when they start to figure it out, have them throw their change-up with a baseball.

Not saying to do this but an older guy that has put a lot of pitchers in college, would put nails in the seams of the balls and keep adding them until they could throw boulders. LOL. He taught HE style and everyone said if your arm could handle his training you would throw hard. He had a lot of pitchers get hurt and a lot throw hard.

“We are either going to train our arm to throw 100mph or we are going to get hurt…whichever comes first.”
