Nowadays most kids play 1058 games in the summer..there isn't a lack of seeing game pitching during the season. I do see value in seeing live pitching during the offseason. That said, when I was a kid (maybe through 13 YO or so), my father would throw CU,curves, etc to me from regulation distance during BP. That said, the fact that I now sit on my butt for a living probably points to it not being all that important

A certain not to be named hitting instructor out there says you need to learn to swing before you learn to hit. That might be a bit of a simplification but there is some truth in it...

Hitting is the hardest part of the game so those high reps in practice help, in an actual game you’re lucky to get 8 swings. That’s not going to help u become a better hitter.

You quoted me before I made my edit..read the edited part of my post. I hit with my DD at least 3 times a week so yes I understand that you get better outside of games. I definitely see value in live BP. I also see value in eliminating some elements when trying to teach a kid good mechanics.

And right there ^^^ is the answer to your question. Not very many coaches have the budget for that.

U learn to start swinging by hitting a ball. I start out teaching hitting mechanics off a tee. Inch by inch it’s a cinch

There ^^^ is the other challenge. Finding someone who can throw good live BP (not short-distance front toss) isn't always so easy.

In 5 years of TB, there has not been one team where we have had someone who could show up regularly to provide that service.

Do people have the same issue with a hack attack they have with a jugs re: lack of timing mechanism, etc? I've never used a machine that pitched with movement, at least on purpose lol

That costs money, too. If you can find one. Oh, and she has to be able to throw all the pitches, with accuracy, at an age-appropriate velocity. She has to be in the area, available, and willing to pitch.

Why do you think this is something that's easy attainable? Why do you think that this is easily attainable and most teams don't do it?

There are other considerations, depending on the team. If you want to do this for a high school team, the pitcher cannot currently be a college player, and anybody else would need to undergo certification courses, background checks, etc. Who's gonna pay for that? Some of those things may need to be part of the equation for a travel team, too, but I can't speak to that.
