Nowadays most kids play 1058 games in the summer..there isn't a lack of seeing game pitching during the season. I do see value in seeing live pitching during the offseason. That said, when I was a kid (maybe through 13 YO or so), my father would throw CU,curves, etc to me from regulation distance during BP. That said, the fact that I now sit on my butt for a living probably points to it not being all that important
