Bryan,

Thank you for sharing and providing perspective. If there's anything I've learned from DFP about decision making involving my kids, whether insignificant like a swing rebuild or a life-changing college selection, its that its critical to teach them to be confident in their choice after they have carefully evaluated and thought through their options. Doing so enables them to move forward to meet and conquer future goals and challenges without any lingering doubts or second guessing.

What your daughter's future holds is uncertain, but her perseverance in recovering from her injury is a testament to her ability to face it with resolve and look forward with anticipation and confidence.

God bless Emily, you, and your family

Bryan…my heart goes out to you and Emily. Your dd is lucky because she has you and she is in good hands. You both will find another avenue to experience life together and teach her life's lessons…if that is what is meant to be.

I have always enjoyed your post and wish nothing but the best for you both.

God bless you and Emily. With her drive and determination, I'm sure doors you don't anticpate will open for her. Please touch base periodically to let us know how you both are doing.

Best wishes,

That must feel like her world ending, heartbreaking.
She will heal and grow and bloom in a new direction, but that won't mean anything to her until she's ready.

I can only hope that the life lessons this game has taught her can help her make the transition and serve her well.

I’m so sorry to hear her playing days are over.

I bet the game will miss her more than she misses the game.

Oh Bryan...I can only imagine what you are going through. But the end of one dream doesn't mean the end...with what I have read thus far, your DD's determination and dedication will lead her to find other dreams. She will persevere and succeed in whatever dreams she does pursue.

God Bless you and Emily.

Thank you for these kind words. I am already wondering, "Can't she play at some level, with a facemask and helmet on?"
What can she play? Track and Field? Swimming? Biking?

Could coaching be in her future?

I am deeply sorry for the new you ad Emily recieved. I too felt this pain, my freshman year of college I had an injury that ended my playing (although nowhere as severe as your dauhters). I decided that I could not leave the game i loved, and got into coaching. It started helping with a local rec league and now has evolved to travel ball. There are not nearly enough females coaching in the sport and the little girls I first coached loved having a girl coach. She doesn't have to give up her love maybe just rediret her focus.

Best of Luck

Bryan, words are never enough. In a way, softball was good training for Emily and the much more important battle she has had to fight. The bonds between father and daughter that have grown for my child and I are certainly apparent for you and Emily. She has needed that. You have done so much for her and I am certain that she knows it. She will have her heart break for a while. She will miss the field, the friends, the competition. Still, she will have gained so many skills that will serve he so much in going forward. You have provided her with that support and so, know that she knows you will always be there with support. Bryan, I can't say that I understand at all what you are going through. My daughter, Brianna has an incident from a spider bite that resulted in a long stay in a hospital, possible heart implications and the possibility that she might never play again. It was so hard for her but we were so fortunate that the Doctors and Nurses at Children's Hospital in St. Louis were able to turn things around. I would wish the same for Emily.

Bryan, you and Emily will be in our prayers. Please take care!
