The great Gatorade debate finally settled

While I and most others will agree that drinking more water then sport drink is better for the players, drinking it the morning of is not the only answer. If you are expecting heat and games then they need to drink 4-5 more glasses of water a day for a few days before they play. Then while...

    Bat delima

I just noticed this week that the ASA2004 stamp has rubbed off my DD's 2011 XENO. I immediately panicked and sent an email to my JO commissioner for clarification. Got a response from the district UIC that without the stamp the bat would not be eligible for championship play. Anyone else have...

    Rec Ball Dilemma

I am finding myself in the same discussion with my wife. Last night my 9yr DD who is in her 3rd year of 8U ball played for the Rec 10U team in town. She has been working on pitching once in while over the past 6 months watching and learning from her sister at lessons. She got to pitch 3...

12u Game Played with Mound at 35ft. How Mad You Be?

In the last 4 years I have had a ASA State finals in 10C that we pitched the first 4 innings from 40' before my pitcher told me she was stepping on something after her follow through. When we saw the plate in front of her we finished that inning before moving up to the 35' plate. This past...

8U softball debate.... Your opinion please....

I am in the Lincoln Nebraska area. Our League started an 8U league 2 years ago. Girls play 8 league games and teams then play a 'Crazy 8's' tournament at the end of the year. Our organization started an 8U tournament 3 years ago and had 6 teams come from within an hours drive. They way we have...

    Players as base coach?

Has anyone used or use a player as a base coach? Our league games I usually use as way to get players who don't play as much on the weekends extra time or work on the little things we haven't done well or put in during practice this last week. My wife suggests putting players on as base...

How do you build a winning team?

2 years ago my team represented this list. I said at the start "If I don't screw up we should win state" we did by an average margin of 6 runs a game. Got close to this again this year and so far we are 17-5 record 1/3 the way through the season.

Dad's 'old ways' messing up batting - what to do?

I have a girl that has been with me 4 years. She knows the game well and has improved each year. Each year she starts out batting great as my lead off. Takes pitches confident that she will put it in play or be walked. The past few games she has been rolling her hands over at or before...

1st Start @ Pitcher for DD

Thanks everyone, I was told by a college pitcher that she should pitch closer to 80% strikes to be effective, she is at 60% season pitching 6.2 innings in 3 games with a BB:SO of 4:7. She was very upset that the team didn't hold on for the win but we talked through that and it has given her a...

1st Start @ Pitcher for DD

After almost exclusively catching the past 3 years my DD took lessons this winter to be a pitcher. Now at 2nd year 12U she got a start. I'd like to see a better strike to ball ratio moving forward but it is getting better by the week. Batters faced: 20 IP: 3.2 #p: 58 Strikes: 38 Balls: 20 BB...

Mamas, don't teach your DDs how to play kickball...

I had a player at a friends house on Saturday of a tournament. We were done for the day. I get a TXT from mom with a photo of a cast on a leg. She slipped going around 2nd while playing kickball.

Is holding players from scoring bad ?

This past weekend (12U) we were ahead 10 - 0, bases loaded, 1 out, bottom of 3rd, already scored 6 runs this inning. I knew we would get the last 2 runs needed to end the game before the 3 outs if I don't do something. I wanted to get my 4th pitcher (my DD) an inning of work. So I had the...

you know you're addicted to softball when.......

    60. Your 'romantic valentine weekend' in Ft. Lauderdale turns into a search for a possible tournament to see if softball in Florida is really that much different then softball in Nebraska.

Sign, Sign, Everywhere a Sign...Do This, Don't Do That...

You would find the arm bands in the football section of your sports store or on-line. Most likely you have 5-9 different 'sings' but each one could be on the arm band 3-4 times each one #'d or the rows are numbered and then the 'sign' numbered. You give the player 2 #'s - first gives the row -...

    Corporal Punishment

I only see this in the high A level - Drill sergeant type coaches. This past weekend 12U I actually had a coach start with 8 girls on defense and 1 on the bench. It was punishment for not following one of the team rules prior to the game. She then proceeded to in the middle of the inning pull...

Planar Fasciitis, Sever's Disease or ?

My DD 12 was told this past week she has akelis tendonitis (sp?) which is pulling on her heal bone since her growth plate is not closed which is making the cartlige inflammed from the movement of the heal bone since the tendon is pulling on it. Sounds very similar to this. She wears a boot...

    Question about sliding into home

My daughter is a catcher and will clear it if she has time, keeps her from stepping on it and causing herself injury. Also have seen umpires make a quick move to clear the bat when they can and the catcher doesn't. In either case I am glad they do for the sake of safety on all players parts.
