For the past two seasons, I've had 3 hitters who were far and away my best. This year, they're all hitting .450-.550 while the rest hit about .240-.310.

I wonder if this is common or not.

What does your batting lineup look like? How much balance is there? Is it more common to have a lot of balance between the top and bottom, or are most teams carried by 2-4 really outstanding hitters? Is it common to have 2-3 girls on a team that really don't hit all year?

Just before the start of our rec season, we lost our purest hitter to injury. I kept the prospective 3-4-5 in those slots throughout the season and that's where all the hits came from during our 14-game regular season. The rest of the team combined for maybe half as many hits as ONE of them. It was a long year.

We got our stud back for the semifinal round of the playoffs, so I immediately inserted her in the leadoff spot, but I made the mistake of leaving our other hitters at 3-4-5 instead of moving them up to 2-3-4. And as you can guess, the #2 slot gave the final out of the game and we lost by a run. That was a complete and total managerial fail.

Moving on to all-stars and then to TB, the lineups are going to be stacked with speed at the top and bottom and plenty of power through the middle. If our team BA is .400 during summer and fall, we're going to be just fine.

In rec my #3 is always one of my new girls who can all bunt - they don't even have to be very fast and they don't even need to disguise it that well. I know one of my first two batters are getting on base and one of them is almost certain to be at third when the #3 spot comes up (or we'll wait a pitch so she can steal over there). Defending a bunt with a player on third with out a force at home in rec is tough and we either get a cheap run on a fielders choice or she gets an infield hit/fielders choice with our power hitters coming up in the #4 and #5 spots.

We got a lot of runs in the 1st inning all season while giving all the first time players a chance to bat and contribute near the top of the order.
