What's really strange is that Nashville has three DI softball programs, and Vanderbilt isn't one of them. Who would ever guess that? So in that regard, you got to give it up to Belmont, Lipscomb, and Tennessee State for representing Nashville.I was unaware of this information. I know a lot of women's golf scholarship money goes "unclaimed. " I assumed bowling did too and it is likely much cheaper than golf to become good at.
And, YES, it is very surprising they don't have a softball program. Softball is a "money" sport now. They are in the SEC, in Nashville, it would be no issue getting players. Look how fast Duke and Clemson have become the nouveau riche of softball. Vandy could do it if they gave AF.
I agree that Vanderbilt would be able to successfully recruit and be competitive from day one. You would think that they would want to build a program and compete with their SEC rivals, but for some reason, they won't. It's a shame...another strong SEC team would only help the sport overall.
