Not really talking about what I believe.. just saying I've seen this classified as bat drag by many when reviewing an amateur swing

Well then I think they are wrong. For me bat drag starts behind the back, straight arm - straightened bat behind the back. It is often accompanied by other bad mechanics such as starting with the hands, opening front side to pull the bat, or a tucked leading back elbow. But Bellinger here is simply reaching, fooled in my opinion.

I took julrays comment in jest. Often, on here, bat drag is diagnosed merely by the rear elbow leading the top hand. This is obviously a flawed method.

I think bat drag is a little more complex than just the elbow leading the hand. If a kid is hitting the ball hard often dont mess with it.

In another thread there are many old time players with similar moves/positions.

For bat drag to be an issue it needs to be accompanied by losing the the barrel (barrel below hands) early in the swing. See Quasi drag photo. Bellinger never looses the barrel

I see bat drag... all the time we see this classified as bat drag on this site in amateur hitters. Yes the hitter may be adjusting, the swing may not be perfect etc etc but based on others definition of bat drag on this site.. the is most certainly bat drag.

This looks more like a bad camera angle. Here's one from 2019 from side angle. The hands are not behind the back elbow.

Said every kid that didn't make their high school team.

I knew a 12U baseball kid that hit 300' parking lot bombs almost every at bat. 300' floaters in high school is a .100 hitter.
