Ive talked to some coaches out west and it sounds like they are is doing away with two way players. Idk if it’s a good thing or a bad thing.

When you say 'some coaches' - who exactly do you mean? Who are 'some coaches'

Some coaches are idiots. Some are not.

And of course, it is a bad thing if you are just doing it without thought. DD pitches and hits (and fields) in college. The option to do that was one of the reasons she choose that college (though education was always the most important thing).

PO's is a pretty normal thing across the country and would not consider it a new thing.

At 16U and below, if you kid is pitching and wants to hit and can actually hit, she should hit. At some point lot kids realize that they don't love pitching anymore but still want to play. If so, they better be working on their hitting. DD had several Pitcher teammates over the years were PO's, but that was at 18U and College. One of those girls just helped TLU win the D3 National Championship. Her dad said he can't remember the last time she wore a batting helmet. 18u coach let one Pitcher hit and she hit a bomb! Her dad said that was number 20. What?! P5 coaches were checking her out, but ended up being a NARP at A&M.

She had another teammate that really wanted to hit, AND she COULD hit but 18U coach didn't hit her. She left for another program so she could hit...That coach didn't let her hit there either. Now she is in college and is trying to hit there too. Top 1-3 D3 school. Strong as an ox! Didn't hit at all last year, but is hoping she will get a chance.

We know who those D1 hitters that can hit, but these are Unicorns Rachel Garcia, Sam Show, Makinzy Herzog, Nicole Mendes(used to pitch), Keilani Ricketts, Amanda Scarborough,...who else ya got?

Valerie Cagle Clemson might end up being one of the better ones.

If pitchers can hit better than the DP, they're going to hit.. Simple as that. Problem is, the DP usually rakes pretty good so the bar will be high. DD is on and has been on teams that are basically PO for the last 2yrs.

Some pitchers hate it, some really like it.

Some pitchers have a hard time accepting that they can't hit in the top 9 and think they should get to hit because they are in the circle. If the pitcher can legit hit let them hit, if they can't hit I'd still let them dig their own hole in pool play because happy pitchers pitch better but we all have to face reality some time.

They don't need to hit better than DP. Just better than the coaches DD playing 2nd base.

Where did your DD decide to go, if you don’t mind me asking?
University of North Dakota (next fall)- she didnt want to go far away,(3 hrs) and it met all the particulars even for the "broken leg test". Had some wonderful offers but in the end its all her choice.

and on a side note, Dad likes it too as the Summit league is all within driving distance. Just the spring southern trips will need the flying

But why change the game? I understand it to a degree that if a pitcher is just ok hitting but she’s dominate in the circle then keep her as a PO. But, if a pitcher can hit and she does well at it, let her hit! It’s a part of the game that makes it fun to watch. Let’s not turn it into baseball.

Interesting you talked with coaches out west that told you this. What level of coaches were these and were they only speaking of their own program would be the specific question.
