Looks to me like there is a good amount of movement "back" before any sort of coil around the rear leg/back hip occurs (right around when he initiates the leg lift).All I see is coil n stretch. The back leg/hip are stable with lots of actions happen.

Pro tip: If your head is in front of your back foot, it's hard to coil back (ie. it's easier to coil as you go forward). When you pick up the front leg/foot, you fall forward via gravity. Gravity is your friend.
