I totally agree with the above post. I'm a clinical child psychologist, and when I worked on inpatient units with kids with severe psychiatric issues, I made certain never to be behind a closed door with a patient (for my own physical safety as well as to avoid any accusations that might be made by an unhappy patient or parent). In my work now in private practice in the 'burbs, I work with a lot of little ones (ages 4-5 and up). I always make sure that the parent takes them to the bathroom before a session. I DO NOT want to be put in the position of having to go into a bathroom to help a little one with toileting/redressing or washing hands following toileting. God forbid some parent get p'o'ed at me and decide to accuse me of something terrible.
