My daughter showed me the grip yesterday and it is where her index finger all the way to the tip of the thumb ride the seam of the ball like a U-Shape then at release she lets the ball go through the U. She wasn't able to throw it effectivly but a couple of them started like a fast ball then died right in front of the plate like it fell off the table. The spin seemed minimal at best. Is this an effective pitch, hard to learn, used as a change up or some type of drop.

Hi
That's essentially how my DD throws her change up. She actually holds it with the middle finger, ring finger and thumb with the pointer finger on top ot the seem. She comes around and pushes her fingers off the ball and, when done correclt has no spon and drops out of sight.
