This is what I do as well. Don't wait for a coin flip, just ask to be visitor when the ump grabs his coin.

A coin toss in sports is not applicable to game theory since the expected payoff depends on how the team plays.

If the winner of the coin toss wins a sporting match 53% of the time, one would have to conclude that there is an advantage to winning the toss, regardless of the choice made. If, however, that number is 48%, then that means there is a disadvantage in winning the toss.
