daughter tries out for a 12u team. She is 2nd year 12u. All the girls that tired out were 1st year. Told she did not make it because they want a team of all 2007 birthdays but that she is really good and should try another travel teams. Won't they play in all the same touraments anyway or are there touraments strictly for 11Us? Not understanding the difference of being a 12u or 11u when in rec it is either 10u or 12u

It's because the 07s can play 12U for two more years. Your daughter ages out after this year and will have to move up. They're trying to keep all the same birth years with the lofty goal of keeping a team together long term. It never actually happens, but that's probably the reason. We're 06, and last year our HC wouldn't take any 05s for that reason.

It's in your daughters interest too. We were a 2nd year ('05) 12U playing on a 1st year ('06) 12U team last year. While it was a good year of softball and the right choice, it wasn't a permanent home and we had to go shopping for a new team at the end of the year. And for the last month of the season, you have one foot out the door looking and thinking about next year which is to nobody's advantage.

Some teams are "age pure" 11's that play 12U. As said above if they can keep the team together it makes sense to some degree.
