I just came across this- being the parent of (2) softball players that have had to overcome concussions, this really hit home with me

Ive always had a high opinion of her but thuis shows Patty Gasso as the first class coach she is.

My DD is sidelined with a concussion right now. I sent this to her when I saw it. It is a great story. My DD's coaches have been extremely supportive as well. They don't mess around with concussions anymore.

Both my DDs had more than (1) concussion each and it wasnt until the last one that it happened playing softball. (Snow-tubing, figure skating and soccer). DD has seen coaches and players on the HS softball team celebrating athletes that continue to play while concussed. So not everyone is on board with the protocol, so your DD is fortunate in that sense.
Good luck!

Wow, I am really shocked and horrified that Missouri put her back in that game first of all and that there was NO assessment for concussion! That infuriates me, honestly. WTH is the matter with those coaches? This video is really an indictment of that program and those coaches. Kudos to OU for taking this seriously and doing what Paige needed to get her back in a place where she can trust again.

ETA: Glad Earleywine got fired. There's a difference between being a coach who just isn't "warm and fuzzy" and one who makes idiotic decisions that could permanently affect a young woman's life.

DD had a concussion from front tossing in a cage ball Rica shade off the cage and hit her in the top of the head. She did not experience any symptoms until 3 days later, began as headache and blurred vision it took over a month before she could pass the concussion protocol. to return to the team.

She is now a coach, first year, and is encouraged by me to have her players wear a mask.

DD had a concussion a couple years ago - took a charge in basketball from a girl who outweighed her by probably 50-70 lbs. it didn’t show up right away - but by the next morning she couldn’t stand up without hanging on to something. She was out for approximately 6 weeks even though it was considered a “minor” concusssion. Her softball coach was not understanding - he kept pushing for her to come back and she was anxious to return as well so it was a real challenge to keep her down and keep her honest when being re-evaluated to be cleared. Her first practice back she was batting and popped a ball straight up - she wandered around wondering where the ball went and then bang - it landed right on the top of her helmet. I was terrified. Thankfully everything was fine.

I have absolutely no respect for a coach who puts the game before a players health. This is the rest of their lives we’re talking about! Good for Gasso!
