Those are pretty swings. Both hit the ball more out front than some would recommend and turn the barrel later in the sequence. Great balance. Head/eyes stay pretty still. IMO both are 2 legged.
I see these similarities with Harper as well, his head does move around a little though

that’s not what palm up means. It means keeping the barrel up and out of plane. Miggys demo shows this
So "palm up" doesn't mean what it says it is, it means something completely different. How convenient for you. Lol!!

Then why don't they say, "keep the barrel up and out of plane" if that's what they're trying to say?

well it’s not on top of the world Mud. Come on!
"Come on!" what? The question still stands, what is it that you teach your hitter(s) to stay on top of? The already downwardly traveling ball? Applying geometry to the swing path why would you instruct them to do that?

When you ‘lose’ ‘drop’ ‘work’ ‘level’ ‘go up’ with the barrel too soon. You’ve committed to early and will either be out of the zone too quickly or ‘Miss’ the intended target. You can’t bring the barrel back up it’s too late. So one must stay on top until commitment.
Why are you introducing a new caveat of timing into the discussion now? Sure, if I do anything too early or too late there's a potential of it negatively effecting the swing, but that's not the discussion we're having on the "path" of the swing now are we?

shortest loop or route or radius possible.
Well the shortest "route" is a straight line, and we're right back to where we started in a straight line "down to" the ball. Yep, shortest, but most definitely not the most efficient.

now you know. 🙂 the hands are what is on plane. The barrel will follow the hands if on top.
Really, that's what you're going with...the hands are on plane?

Even after looking closely at Josh's swing you just posted where his hands are on a completely circular path, and never align with the relatively straight downward path of the ball...but for except maybe a fraction of a second as they pass in and out of the zone long before the barrel gets anywhere near it? Yikes! 😲

At the end of the day we want a ‘loop’ we can control and release when we want, which could be early or later. Not all balls will be hit at the midline.
So now you do want a "loop" in your swing? I thought you wanted to stay on top of ball, and then go straight "down to" the pitch. Well good to see you're at least finally starting to come around now anyway. 👍

Not sure I understand the question, but I'll try...

From the "loaded" or as Hudgens calls it as I've used in the past, the "Position of Power"...which is the same as "FYB" or your "leveraged position".

I can't find it, but it's that top hand movement (some call it "THT") that Ryan Braun displays in his drill video where he turns his top hand "palm up" just before or as he then takes it "down to" the ball if you want to call it that. I know you know the one I'm talking about.

Mud, is this the loop you promote ?

I'll know I'll get blasted for this because we are looking at one of the all time greats. But IMO if matching the plane(palm up) is the goal here.. then it's not happening. He loses the barrel, the barrel is not in the zone for a long as it can be because it dips too low and he needs to come at an angle to get back on plane. That's much different than on plane and up through. That's below plane and up through.. kind of the opposite of too steep.

I can agree with this, and why I mentioned "I'd like to see it tightened up a bit". In that particular swing, Ted got away with being a little too sloppy, and out of plane a bit with the bat/barrel...coming in from more "below" the ball rather than a tighter "behind" it that I'd like to see.

Well at least your honest ... I can appreciate that! And I have a better vision of what you teach and think an idea swing is. Thanks for that
