To the earlier vaccine discussion, there are major downsides to fast-tracking a vaccine that isn't fully tested, says this Politico story.

Def get this...but it is for another issue so it has been tested, maybe not for this virus. But again, if you
or someone you know is in the hospital for this, I would like the choice to use it or not instead of being told,
well, we have to test it for months to make sure. I try to be optimistic and say the good can outweigh
the bad...IF there is any bad because we dont know.

I also am glad we can stretch the boundaries a little in this case. We softball people are being affected in a way that’s different than some other folks. It’s going to be hard on us.

Agree that it’s ok to not agree. In fact I prefer it. I like to hang with like minded people but you learn the most from people you don’t agree with.

Afraid we got bumpy roads ahead. I can’t take my eyes off of Italy. 13 doctors dead there since it started. They have been locked down for a month. Think I heard 800+ Passed there today. Damn.

Keep your heads down, take this thing serious and try to find a way to have some fun.
I believe only parts of Italy were in lockdown and the closures spread in a reactionary fashion not in a preventive one. Also have heard from someone stuck there that the general population refused to adhere to the lockdown and now everyone is paying the price.

Hopefully we can be more responsible here though a friend said beaches in Oregon were packed to the limit yesterday so maybe we aren't any better after all

I wish the general public had your mindset; however, many people out there still think big pharma is evil and just out to make some money off of something like this. I could scream from the top of my lungs that this is not true but most wouldn’t believe me anyway.

The second a fast-tracked vaccine or medication for this virus harmed someone, you’d better believe that company would be damned. I can hear the radio advertisements by the lawyers now.......”if you or a loved one have been injured or harmed, blah, blah, blah......”

I’m with Brady on this one. Only the sickest are seeking treatment at hospitals. Many with “mild” symptoms are being sent home to recover without an official diagnosis due to lack of tests. They will recover and be fine, but have not impact on mortality rates. As the testing becomes more available, and it’s becoming more available at exponential rates, I expect the mortality rate to drop significantly due to the mild cases being confirmed.

Take influenza as an example. The mortality rate of lab confirmed cases is around 10%. Most people that get the flu, even if they get a diagnosis from a Dr, are not tested and lab confirmed. Only the sickest that need treatment get the test so the dr can be sure they are treating the correct ailment. It is estimated that for every one patient confirmed to have the flu, there are 100 other cases that are not. That is why the actual mortality rate of the flu is .1%, and not the 10% of lab confirmed cases.

Something, something softball, so slugger doesn’t ban me.

Where did you get that 10% of lab confirmed influenza cases are fatal? Here in Ga the data is 0.28% mortality of lab confirmed influenza cases for the 2019-2020 flu season.

People pushing "Not enough testing" aren't understanding the current math. Not enough testing would not only show up as a low number of reported cases BUT ALSO as a higher fatality rate.

Our current fatality rate (looking at the upper and lower bounds) put's us right in the middle of the world average.

While more testing is always better the current testing is sufficient enough to draw conclusions on where this is currently headed.
