I've seen it once on the 12U level, about 3 years ago, when someone on DD 3's team was hurt in a game. It was a team from a different state. I appreciated the sentiment, and I thought the gesture was thoughtful.

I have never seen it since then, nor have I seen it from any Wisconsin team.

The last game DD 3 played in, she was hit by a pitch from the hardest thrower she had ever faced. DD 3 tried to pitch after that, but wasn't doing as well, and was moved to 1B in what by then was a losing effort. At one point the offending pitcher grounded out, and DD 3 got in a hard tag.

It's definitely quite common down here in GA. Coach will yell "Take a knee!" and everyone on both teams does so while the injured player is being tended to. It's considered respectful. I, too, have seen coaches and parents get offended if players just stand there while a girl on their team is hurt. Could be a Southern thing, I recognize, but my kids routinely are pestered to say "ma'am" and "sir" too.

It's pretty common around here through 10U, especially at the rec level. I don't remember seeing it from 12U on, usually the opposing team gives a polite golf ovation as the injured player leaves the field for the older girls.

3 years ago at Southern Nationals (B)my DD gets beaned in the back of the leg by a kid that should not have been pitching at that level. My DD nearly took her head off the previous AB. This is 14U and noone from that team took a knee and that pitcher gave her a "get yer A$$ up you little B-word" look. We were an awesome All star team putting it to some of these B teams. Ended up getting 3rd but I will never forget that look and the bruise!

Unless the batter goes down, and stays down, I have never seen an opposing team take a knee for a HBP.

I'm a native but I don't make mine do the ma'am and sir thing. People are always making their kids say it to me. I want to tell them I really don't require such formalities.

My family moved to Arkansas when I was 9. In some cases I deliberately tried NOT to act southern, so I almost never used "sir" and "ma'am" growing up. And not at all in my teenage years. My mother was from Oklahoma, where that was common, but she married a Yankee, and to a large extent we were raised like Yankee kids.

(It's always interesting to see how the word Yankee has different meanings in different contexts. I always got a chuckle out of being called "Yank" in England, where it refers to all Americans).

Yes I agree, but she was down for quite a bit. I wasn't asking for the team to take a knee, but the nastiness of the player was over the top. She hadn't missed her spots all day, but all of sudden she loses control on one pitch. A year later she verballed to a mid major D1 in Texas.
