But can we all agree that 200 foot fences and drop 10 bats are ridiculous?

No, we do not agree. Baseball uses a 9 inch 5oz ball.... which carries further, so they need the bigger fields and heavier bats.

And college baseball players are hitting basically the same number of HRs as Softball.

The D1 HR leader in softball has 25 HR in 40 games. (.62 HR per game)
The D1 HR leader in baseball has 19 HR in 34 games. (.56 HR per game)

If you exclude Oklahoma, the #2 softball team in HR/game (Arizona State) is hitting 2.03 HR per game. The #1 Baseball team (Northwestern) is hitting 1.93 HR per game.

How about this for apples to apples?
University of Arkansas
Baseball HR = 74 in 39 games (1.90/game)
Softball HR = 87 in 45 games. (1.93/game)

I would say the softball field size and bats are pretty equally tuned when compared to baseball at the college level.

And they are never going to make the fields bigger... it's just too costly. If you are going to make the fields bigger, the bases further, might as well just start up women's Baseball, and play in the Fall, and use the same field as the men.

Moving the bases from 60 to 75 feet will spread the defenders out and you'd see an increase in offense. What's bad and loses spectators now is a ball being cleanly fielded at 3rd or short and the batter still reaching safely because the bases are only 60 feet apart and she had a running start.

If home runs are fun why did baseball go to BESR bats in 99 and BBCOR bats in 11? The 1998 CWS was filled with home runs , the final between USC and ASU had a football score.

It's time to move the bases to 75 feet, move the fences to 250 feet and limit the bats to a drop 5 for 14U and older play.
There's no reason that college women should be playing on a field the same dimensions as 6u players (other than pitching rubber) and using the same drop 10 bats.

In baseball the bases go from 60 to 90 feet, the fences go from 230 to 320/400 feet, the mound moves from 45 to 60 feet and the bats go from drop 10 to drop 3 at age 13

Nope. Why does it need to follow baseball? Part of the excitement of softball is that there is so much intensity in a small space.

So Along with the homeruns you want even more base hits? And higher batting averages?

The history of softball has proven the changes made have tremendously grown the sport & viewer interest.

This is one of the reasons like reading the discussion forum! Its people putting in good detail like this from

....and then watching to see if certain others acknowledge it...or ignore it.

Looking at it through a recent baseball players eyes. In 2019 Anna was a senior and dating a kid who pitched and played SS, just like Anna, this kid committed to a D2 school as a pitcher.

He had never seen or watched FP before, he got absolutely hooked on coming to and watching Anna's games. He said (his words) that baseball could get overly boring, and that playing SS, on a routine grounder he said he could bobble the ball twice and eat a sandwich and still throw the baserunner out! 😆 And that in FP it was so bang-bang that the fielder had to not only be super clean but get rid of the ball lightening fast! The speed of the game is what hooked him!

College baseball should have never gone to the BBCOR bats, the BESR bats were restrictive enough

Went to a high school softball game this weekend between 2 D1 Varsity programs where the winning team had 7 home runs and the losing team had 5. A slapper hit a ball over the fence.

Exactly. There aren't really "routine" DPs in softball.
