What is meant by touch the helmet where the pony tail comes out? do you mean with the bat during the load?if so what part of the bat ? and what does this accomplish? is this to get the right angle 45 degrees in order to get on plane more effeciently or/and is there other reasons?

We teach top of the hands to the top of the shoulder minimum and no higher than the ear hole of the helmet and to tap the back of the helmet ( where the pony tail comes out of the back of the head) to assure a proper bat angle of about 45 degrees. This should also help from wrapping the bat and tilting it towards the pitcher. We do this as part of our set up and the hands will separate rearward at or during toe touch or if you prefer think walking away from the hands. We are attempting to take the extremeness out of the set up and try to limit style for the sake of mechanics until they learn how to swing.

Thanks Howard

When we played baseball the good baseball hitting instructors use to call this the slot position. So we were teaching this 30 years ago. Most of the kids I get that tend to hold the bat straight up, ( what dad told them to do) tend to cast and take the hands to the ball, instead of pulling the bat thru.
