Taent without hard work will only get you so far. There are a lot of talented players in any sport that never "make it". Want proof, just watch an AND 1 mix tape. Talented basketball players but never went anywhere.
Hard work without talent will still get you a long way but still only so far.
But talent and hard work.....You can be elite.
Add discipline and desire and you can be the greatest of all time. Ala Jerry Rice.

Talent may just be loving something so much you will do almost anything to be good at it.

I would call that motivation. Talent is something different, an aptitude that exists independently from and sometimes even opposite to motivation. It's something you see more clearly in the early stages of anything -- some kids just achieve more with the same work. The higher you go, the more selection takes place, At some point, both the kids with less aptitude who couldn't keep up because they ran out of hours and the kids with more aptitude who couldn't be bothered to put in the effort are no longer present. "The Outliers" is a book on the subject that is worth a read for anyone who hasn't already.
