Same thing here in MN. I wish they would front-load our schedule with non-conference games. Only 2 of our first 6 games are non-conference. We are supposed to start next Tuesday...but the forecast isn't looking too good right now.

Sounds like someone needs to suggest that to the AD. Or whomever is designated with making the schedule. No disrespect intended, but it sure seems like those in charge of softball in MN are using their butt cheeks for ear muffs.

Can't. Fall is the prime recruiting period for softball with many exposure tournaments. If you force the players to make a choice, school softball will suffer.

The recruiting takes place at travel tournaments and showcases. College coaches told me they dent go to high school games unless they feel they have to show up for a particular recruit. And I can't speak for Texas, but high school softball in California is a spring sport.

In mass. our season starts in April, but we still lose games at the beginning of the season. "Spring" doesn't start until sometime in May, before playoffs and the start of summer weather. (Weather is much better in the fall)

Did you see they extended the season a week to give teams a chance to play make-ups? Which would be great except it pushes the tourney back, which will now go into the June 15-17 weekend; and we're supposed to leave for Pennsbury on Thursday the 14th!

For those not on the east coast, Pennsbury is one of the showcases for top academic colleges in our area.

Spring Sport in TX. GA it's a fall sport. IA it's a summer sport.

Fall is HS FP season here in Georgia, and we still get recruiting done just fine Coaches come and watch mainly in July and late October/early November in showcases. Several of the schools around us play slow pitch in the spring. So that is when our big southeastern showcases are (Champions Elite, Legacy, Thunderboltz). We start TB at the end of February and play through the start of school (first of August). Our kids usually miss the first or second week of school for certain national tournaments, which also means they miss the first week of school softball.
