What I am going to say here is going to be very controversial, so what else is new.

Just about everyone, instructors included will say to “Keep your weight back” during the pitch. HOWEVER, that statement is often times, probably most of the time, taken to mean “Keep your weight back ON THE BACK LEG / FOOT’ throught the entire pitching motion. That is SO wrong. There is a certain point in leap and drag mechanics that you want to have the weight transfer back to the pivot leg / foot.

You want the center of your body weight well ahead of the pivot point when you START your push off from the rubber.

Your pivot foot should drag away from the rubber with ONLY enough weight on it to keep it in contact with the ground.

At landing foot touchdown you should be on a slight backwards lean and, again, with only enough weight on the pivot foot to keep it in contact with the ground.
Now, the stride foot touches down, you are on a slight backwards lean with a slight bend in the stride knee. YOU RELEASE THE BALL and NOW you allow your wqeight to shift back to the pivot leg AS the stride knee straightens and gives you a tiny push backwards, just an inch or two.

If you are going through your entire motion standing straight up, a lot of your weight dragging a ditch in the ground because of the amount of weight against the back leg, you arew not the best leap and drag pitcher you could be.
Hope this helps and I know it will tick off some who teach differently.

Try this advice, it works.

Now, if you are throwing as a step style pitcher, good luck to you.
