Scoring question - Fielder's Choice or a hit? Earned or unearned run?

Situation:
- 2 outs
- Runner on 3rd
- Routine ground ball to second base
- Second baseman fields ball and throws to home plate
- Run scores
- Both players safe

How should this be scored?
a. Base hit with an RBI, earned run
b. Fielder's choice, earned run
c. Fielder's choice, unearned run

I don't think this is an error, but the second baseman passed up a sure out to end the inning. So how should this be scored?

Definitely a fielder's choice and not a hit. I would think it's an unearned run, but not positive about that.

The out is not necessary. Quoting NCAA softball rulebook: ''Fielder’s Choice: A fielder fielding a ground ball and attempting to put out a preceding base runner rather than the batter-runner at first when a throw to first base would have put out the batter-runner.''

The real question is why did 2nd go home and not 1st? I'm guessing younger kids?

Definately a FC according to the rules. And depending on how the runner on third that scored reached base(hit or error) will determine if it was an earned run(rbi) or not. If the runner that scored reached by a Hit earned run(rbi for batter), error un-earned run(rbi for batter).

The run did not score due to an error. If that base runner got on base originally not due to error and advanced around the bases not due to error, wouldn't the run be earned?

Yes, if the runner that scored reached first base by a hit or BB then it is an earned run.

Correct. My speculation about whether the run is earned failed to remember this key fact. It's not simply a matter of whether the run that scored reached on error or not.
