rounding 1st on a four ball walk "giddy up"

First new too the site and fairly new to coaching 12 u softball. question I have is when sending a baserunner towards second after running down to first from a walk, are they anytime obligated to advance towards second or risk be called out for not going. could you please offer reference material to support your answer. thanks in advanceI

If the pitcher does not have the ball in the circle the batter-runner can do whatever they want.

If the pitcher does have the ball in the circle the runner is subject to the Look Back Rule.

A batter-runner who rounds first base towards second base may stop, but then immediately without stopping return to first or advance non-stop to second base.
