as a coach i feel it is a responsibility to work on all areas of the game. you wont see many college coaches foresaking batting. if you are unhappy shop around then, BUT remember sometimes the grass isn't greener down the street.

p.s. a lot of coaches wont let their pitchers pitch to their own batters, that is commonplace for many reasons.

As others have said, ultimately regardless of what team your dd ends up on,it is you and your daughter's responsibility to see that her hitting is up to the level it needs to be.

Let the team coach be the team coach. Let the instructors be the instructors. Few are qualified at both.

you wont see many college coaches foresaking batting.

You pay for part of a kid's college education you get to screw around with their swing whether you are qualified or not. Connie did it for years before she was pressured to hire someone else to do it. ;)

.

Can't argue with that at all.

i dont see how spending some time doing BP at practice is "messing with someone's swing". if you are a coach, at least work on the basics of hitting. we try to make EVERYTHING so complicated. lotta people don't understand that college coaches hammer on the FUNDAMENTALS of the sport. go visit a college practice sometime or attend a college sponsored clinic, ask them one thing...."how much time to you devote to the fundamentals at this level", if most coaches are honest they will all tell you "A LOT".

personally i have some very strong feelings about hiring all these personal coaches for this, that and the other. yes, the majority of softball pitchers do need a qualified personal coach or a team coach that knows a lot about it, but i am not sure about everyone running out and hiring hitting lessons. what's next, personal trainers for 12U, private baserunning lessons, etc?

News flash, in some parts of the country they already have defensive specialist coaches (Howard Kabata comes to mind) and some have personal trainers as well.

Calgofo is correct. Just go to a college web page and look at the girls playing and they list coaches and experience. Most list a hitting coach, Pitching Coach, or a specialist , like Howard. I have been to his camps and you cannot get what he teaches from your team coach. I know a few girls that even have personal trainers and they are only playing travel ball.

couple YEARS back, we had not only a piitching coach come in for our pitchers, we had special days for catchers work, with catcher coaches........

we've also had speed and conditioning coaches... some teams /some players have their own speed coaches......

Sent my DD to a speed coach for awile before she went to NFCA recruiting camp. Was able to get from "slow beyond belief" to "a little slow" I just did it(she was a pithcer) because I didn't want her being that much slower than waht coaches were used to seeing at combines.
