When I click on the link my browser (Google Chrome) opens a new window, but nothing ever comes up. I also tried it in Firefox and IE, but got the message "Error 404: Not Found"

If they can catch the ball and throw I do not care

unless they are recently injured and have to wear a mask, but if there is no dr. orders they will not wear a mask.

I will if it is a pitcher. I know that a lot of youth organizations are mandating it and if a player grows up with it, it doesn't bother me as long as they know they can use their glove to field the ball.

As a rule of thumb I would not, however if that kid was averaging 2 K's an inning and was a stud I may overlook the mask.

No hard and fast answer. not likely as a defender, unless there was a previous injury. Likely if a pitcher. Especially if an injury.

I put no, but I will recruit a pitcher with a fielding mask. The reason I say no, is wearing a fielding mask shows me they are unsure of their skills and are unable to compete at the highest level.

It does not bother me for certain positions. I do not feel a mask limits the ability of a player to perform in the infield. I would have a problem with an outfielder wearing one because of the distance one has to run to make some plays.

If a player is good enough, I can take the mask. As a mother, I can't say that I would stop my child from wearing one if it helped her feel more secure. After seeing some of the injuries I have seen and knowing exit speeds off the bats, I'm open to it.

A pitcher yes...a fielder other than 1st or 3rd base I may question their willingness to field a ball w out fear.

I won't rule out a player with a facemask, but generally I will shy away from a player wearing a face mask.

If a player is wearing a face mask for MEDICAL reasons only, it should not be held against them in their athletic evaluation.

It would depend on the reason for the mask. I would do it but don't really care of players wearing masks

Depends on the position. If they aren't a corner or a pitcher they would have to be really good for me to look at them. I don't love it to begin with so they'd have to be something special even at the corners or in the circle.

I understand the bats are hotter than they used to be and field conditions are great but it shows a player may be afraid of the ball. I understand with special situations but its a turnoff.

I can't say that it is an absolute NO but I tend to shy away from those players. I feel that if they have been taught the techniques that will make them successful at a younger age, they will have the skills needed to succeed at the DI level. I feel that a lot of players are not coached anymore, they are just put out on the field to get recruited. Which hurts them in the long run.

It is initially a flag to me though. If they have had a previous injury I understand.

Only if they have a very valid reason for wearing it. Such as being hit in the face

In rare situations I will consider recruiting someone who wears a facemask. If there is a medical reason (i.e. previous fractures, etc). The reason I shy away from facemasks is because of what it can represent... 1. Poor fielding mechanics and/or low confidence on defense (can lead to bad habits that are hard to fix), 2. Poor reactions and therefore unlikely to be able to handle the DI speed of the game.

I will not recruit an outfielder that wears a facemask. Overall the DI game is a fastpaced game where the athletes train hard, gain strength, learn fundamentals, etc. The game is harder, faster, and more dangerous... If you can't handle the travel level and HAVE to have the facemask how are you going to handle the upper levels???

I would prefer not to since it seems to imply that the athlete is afraid of the ball. If she is good enough, we will recruit her, but it is a detractor.

Yes, but only if she was good enough to play at the Division I level.

If a player is more comfortable wearing the mask I want them to wear it. I have seen several catastrophic injuries and I've become a supporter.

If they are wearing it because of a prior injury then i would consider it.
