My step daughter Kaelie has been working out with Makenzie since this journey started

If she is progressing each practice even just a smidge then great! I am no expert, but can tell you that being a parent of that pitcher and wanting so bad for it to be perfect for them is the most stressful thing in the world when you know they have to do the work and all you can do is sit there and catch. So I applaud you step-dad. Stepping up to help your own kid is daunting, but I am awed by your efforts. Great job! She'll get there. Find a PC if you can. It takes a lot of pressure off of you AND them!

@GatorGirl- Thanks, I treat Kaelie, just like I treat Makenzie, one day apart, Mak is one day older than Kaelie, There aren't any pitching coaches around south Arkansas, that I know of. I just study the mechanics and listen to people that "know" at tournaments and I'm slowly picking it up, and being able to teach what little I know. We play in moving up state this Saturday, and have played in all open tournaments to prepare us for the spring. Go to my youtube channel and type in kevin77 and look at Makenzie 7 months ago and look at her now. She has came along way, and Kaelie has the work ethic needed to succeed, WAY more than my daughter Makenzie, she trys to get by with her God Given ability and she was so happy when she topped out at 48, and Kaelie finally hit 40, she was ecstatic, but I told them it doesn't matter if you don't keep working on your mechanics, and Makenzie absolutely hates doing the arm bands, and shoulder shrugs and arm circles, but they have know idea what a rotator cuff is, and I'm protecting it at an early age, and when our season is over, core, speed and agility drills, and LONG TOSS, is in store, and they are not gonna like me much

Be careful about both of these:
I just study the mechanics and listen to people that "know" at tournaments...
Many well-meaning folks have lots of advice. I've learned to smile and nod for the most part!

and when our season is over, core, speed and agility drills, and LONG TOSS, is in store, and they are not gonna like me much
I'd suggest adding swimming, soccer, basketball, wrestling, frisbee, tree climbing and any other fun, whole body activities. Keep the fitness to at least 75% fun. When they hit 13/14 and want to take it to the next level, sign them up for speed/agility, Zumba or other fun fitness activities. Unless they're begging for it now, tend to keep your duty as more of a facilitator, transport specialist, money tree... you know--a dad!

Ken,

Really great advice. That is such a pivotal age... mentally and physically. My DD is turning 14, and that dad-daughter relationship changed into a daughter-dad relationship a short while ago. She leads, and I follow (when invited...) When we do work on the game - our work together now requires endless conversations about status quo in school... all backed by a horrific soundtrack featuring such artists as One Direction and Selena Gomez. In her eyes, I no longer instruct her, but simply work with her, mostly at her pace. This gives her the opportunity to tease me regarding being old, and in turn... I realize she is right... oy vey...

As she settles down at night emersed in her ever-changing world... I settle into muscle soreness... with horrible music stuck in my head... but most importantly... we are both smiling, and I still have my daughter calling me dad. I then wake up - limping to my car... and Taxi her around the world... or so it seems... and waiting for my next phone call (and paycheck).

Keep 'em active, and not just softball, as the results are well worth it.

Btw, the soreness is from the p90x-like routine we just started... highly recommend the plyometric and core routines!
