And I you think it’s none of the coaches business on how serious you are about joining his team I’m glad you are not on our team.
Never said that. Not the issue.

While I understand what the coach is getting at, I have found out that each year you are going to have a different team (hence why tryouts are held). I could care less if players go to other tryouts. Seems like this coach may take it a little personal because the players are looking elsewhere.
About the only thing that kind of bothers me are the players who come to tryouts with no desire to join the team and are just using it for their own workout. Had one last night in fact, very good player outshined everybody there, made her an offer just to find out that she is staying near her home (about a 4 hour drive) but if we needed a pickup player to call her. Why even come then, why drive the 4 hours each way to attend a tryout? At a loss at that one.
I did mean Bill Conroy's Beverly Bandits which his girls aren't professional (not the professional Chicago Bandits) to make clear. I agree with you that you should have the courtesy to say goodby face to face. But they are one of the top teams in the country and they run it like a business. You cant argue against their success.
On the flip side, my DD has been on the same team for a few years and loves the coach and likes the other girls and we haven't messed with tryouts since. Drama really isn't an issue and we have relatively low turnover. I consider my DD and even as a parents lucky to get in a situation like this. When you get to 16s and 18s, I thinks there's less turnover and drama and people seem to be on the same with similar expectations. The 12u and 14U are the years with volatility as some girls want to get on better teams to improve and some go there way on other interests. But I understand a coach's perspective and wanting to know his players intentions and that's totally fair. But again, coach's cant but unreasonable deadlines, or make demands that you cant go to tryouts and have to understand maybe their girl might land in a situation that Might be better for them. Tryout season can turn into a game of musical chairs and sometimes coaches come out on losing end. Can happen to some girls to.
Parents better be shopping around for the best fit. If your current team is holding tryouts go to a lot of other tryouts.
When the coaches hold tryouts they are looking for someone to take your DDs spot. Plain and simple.

Unless the coach moves up an age group as the girls age out there is always going to be a need for new players thus a need for tryouts. DDs former team is having tryouts because kids graduated and are going on to play in college. The coaches do not have daughters on the team so the team stays 18u year to year. There is always going to be a need for new players
That's not entirely true. We had 3 returners because all the others aged out... so the plain and simple isn't that cut and dry as you say. I would suggest talking to the coaches and find out what their thoughts are.
Every team DD has played on has stated very clearly all "all spots are open". Thats the way it should be IMO.
If you had 3 good returners and had 16 absolute ringers show up for tryouts what would you do?
