The biggest thing you need to get the infielders who cover the bases on steal are these TWO.
1) If the throw is not close enough for you to make a tag FORGET about the runner and go catch the ball, it does not really matter where you start from...so the runner only gets one base
2) If the throw is on line and a play can be made DO NOT reach out and catch the ball, let the ball come to you, catch the ball as close to the bag as possible then apply the tag
I can not tell you how many times I see a good throw that could get the runner out caught by a fielder six or eight feet in front of the bag then they try and reach back for the tag...ugh
