My DD is 12 yr old 7th grader in her first year of travel ball. She is primarily a basketball player being 5"8 and 140 lb. Very athletic as she is playing 4 sports during school year. She only picked up a glove, bat and ball last year for first real time and played rec ball. Luckily, she is able to play 12u which should ease the learning process. Through 10 games so far she has hit for the cycle but is still learning plate discipline. 9 total strike outs with 5 of them looking. Last weekend she swings on 3-0 because she was "protecting the plate". Most of her hits have been to right field as she hits the ball deep in the plate. Trying to get her to be more aggressive. All arms and has too much movement in head and body, imo. Also tends to dip and open up too much. Looking for help???

Her swing is out front with the arms. I call it a push swing. The push and speed of the bat head is out in front of her body.

Fix is to study sequence of a swing. Arms/hands go back as you step out to toe touch. Then the swing is initiated by the lower half of he body.

Here is my daughter doing a swing in slow motion. Try to get your daughter to swing with the same order of body parts as my daughter is doing...

Have watched you and your daughter's videos many times and will continue to do so. Had practice this afternoon and DD swing is improving. Like some of her teammates she has yet to learn to drive ball with with her lower half. Funny thing happened after hitting 12-15 line drive/hard ground balls her coach urged her to swing for the fence. Most of her swings look like 60% power. She amped it up a bit and hit a deep drive to the LF/CF alley. Still have a lot of work ahead but she is still enthusiastic to continue!

Burt, have your DD square off at the tee with a bat in only her left hand, full swing... 10 reps.. then right only hand 10 reps. Then 10 happy gilmores.. This will force her lower body to catch up with her upper body. Do it 4-5 times a week for a few months.. You'll see a big difference.
