Upper rear leg hip coiled. Rear leg drives the coil forward.

stvlower_zps0d1b0818.gif

rear leg turned out, opposite of coiled. rear leg starts driving forward...front leg slams on the brakes and pushes...rear foot does a burn out.

This really shows how the rear leg is pointing to catcher and turned out. I think it might also be helpful to get her rear leg correct in the stance, foot more square (perpendicular) to the plate and and her weight balanced evenly instead of on the back. The stance she starts with might work for some players and can be just a style choice for some players but I think for her it is leading to some of the problems. I would simply focus on getting her in a better stance to start with 1) toes more perpendicular for the back maybe even more inward so she does not cheat back into rear leg turned out, she can still just have her toe touch in front but her heel has to be even or behind her toe not in front of it. 2) weight more balanced between legs not cheating to back leg

maybe a few adjustment in her starting stance will help correct a lot

I believe her bat path would lead to a bunch of pop-ups. When you push hands down towards ball = pop up unless you have perfect timing. If I were working with this yound lady I would be working the barrel down early by working the front arm up during rotation. Getting on plane, making the nike swish behind her and hitting a line drive.

Lhowser, I agree with the nike swoosh path but will take it a step further....make the nike swoosh as vertical as possible in the context of hitting a ball....and the initial curve of the path to be as tight as possible....get behind the rear hip instead of going around it.

Based on what I have seen and read here this is a major emphasis with by 18y/o senior as we work (and all of the girls on the 12u I coach) and get ready for school this year. So far off the tee and in the cage I like what I am seeing. Much better bat speed. We had some good success in the past turning the box but the year it's a focus on hands early.

Rear leg swings really illustrate whether a swing is out front or deep just by whether or not the hitter can keep from coming down on their front foot....whether they are turning the barrel deep or out front...

When you can explain this thought please. I have a couple of bug squishers who are having a really hard time feeling it. blocking the back foot ain't helping.

The weight of the high level swing, is fully planted on, (AGAINST), the front foot by LAG.
Working on the lower end of the swing, playing around with Pressing against the front side, and understanding the feeling of scrunching the side muscles, i call it (with some flack) turning lean(tilt over the plate), to tilt (shoulder working down toward plate).

Getting kids of the backside, is a battle. One that cannot be won, when you tell them to, Resist getting TO the front side

You can try this a couple of ways to get them to start to feel it

Throw from sideways position without a stride - without lunging forward - working the rear leg as the you bring the ball up
Throw with the front foot off the ground - try not to let the front foot come down
Swing with the front foot off the ground - try not to let the front foot come down
Stretch and Fire drill from HI.

All of the above need the player to create the real action behind the rear hip -
