Going to put together a baseline for my new team and wondering what you think are the most important measurable things? I have access to a radar gun and a stopwatch, so go nuts!
As the title reads, how do you best approach this topic on your team? There are several kids that could benefit from additional core strength, speed, and general fitness. I am certainly aware that saying the wrong thing could be upsetting and even devastating to a 15 year old girl. Wondering...
Share your preferred equipment, filming locations, tips, tricks etc. Ideally I'd like to have something that records the whole game that I can mount and grab at the end of the game. Good enough resolution to see a decent part of the field. Battery life and memory to do four games. Any...
Long story short my 14U daughter may have to give up her favorite position as a catcher/first base due to what has been an extended battle with tendon issues on her catching hand. She's played at a high level for a while and since she won't be making $20M a year in the pros, it's best for her...
My daughter has a Vinci CBW413 Fastpitch First Baseman's mitt and
absolutely loves it! After trying several, she settled on this one about
two years ago and hasn't touched another glove since.
Early last year she sustained a thumb injury. It is fully healed, but with
kids throwing harder she...
Please list your favorite sites, streams, or tv channels to watch college softball. Bonus points if they are free or you don't need to cross sign in with cable. I'm trying to get the kids some resources to watch high level games for inspiration!!!!
I don't have any rule books handy, so wondering if anyone knows the various governing bodies rules on roster size? I have a younger 14U team that is looking to split some time with an older 14U team over the fall and early spring. All combined we could have as many as 15 that want to play at a...
Does anyone have 12u kids swing lighter bats against fast pitchers and heavier bats against slow pitchers? We're at some tournaments where we play one team in pool that I swear throws 11mph and then on to a better team in the low 50's. If pitching is pretty consistent either way we mash the...
Looking for some really good tournaments to play in the Great Lakes area. Northern IL, Southern Wisconsin, Western Indiana, etc. Let me know what you like and why. Trying to think ahead for an A level 14U. College exposure is a plus for some of the kids on the team.
What are some of the most succe$$ful things that you do to raise funds for your team or league? I'm not talking banners, bake sales, small businesses, or car washes here.... anyone getting grants, renaming fields, or national sponsors? I'd love to get some new ideas! Let me know what works.
I'm seeing a lot of programs drop the word 'softball' from their leagues. It used to be Softball, then it was Fastpitch Softball, and now just Fastpitch. What do you like and why?
Looking to hear about some things that made a rec program in your area good or even great. Was it the rules, the fields, concessions, the coaches, etc?
I see a big drop off in rec enrollment and program options in my area and it seems like part of it is related to how the games and...
I coach a young 12's team, and have some great kids in the circle. They take lessons, are in charge on the field, and I know they practice.
Since I can't control everything, I pretty much leave pitching mechanics up to their parents and their paid coaches. I know just enough about pitching...
Seems like the number for our 12's is exactly three games. The fourth game always kills us. Doesn't matter if its four in a row, four with a few back to back, or four evenly spaced. We have a set of four great pitchers, and use them in rotation so it's not like we're getting fatigued there...
Watched my girl hit some bombs this weekend and saw her miss putting one over by just a bit. We're moving up to 12U next season, and am wondering how much time it takes to start getting the same distances out of the bigger ball? We did some hitting with a bucket of 12's this season and they...
I'd like to get my team using the back of the base, grab with your hand slide instead if straight in with the feet. I dont even know the proper name to search it out! I have one player that does it and she never gets tagged. Seems as if a lot of teams aren able to cover anything except a...
If a player is rostered on "Team A", which is registered with the State ASA, and competes in an ASA listed league, tournaments, etc..... can she hop to "Team B" for for only the State ASA tournament? Both teams are in the same age bracket.
Ill be moving up to coach a 12u team next year, but thought it would make for a good thread for all ages. What did you wish you knew before the season started in your transition years.
Starting at 10u....
- Make each kid commit to learning either the pitching motion or catchers position...
I have a decent understanding of the rule. What I'd like to hear are some reasons that you use it over a straight nine beyond the 'free' substitution it gives you. Any player specifics or game situations would be great to hear!
