I'd like to get my team using the back of the base, grab with your hand slide instead if straight in with the feet. I dont even know the proper name to search it out! I have one player that does it and she never gets tagged. Seems as if a lot of teams aren able to cover anything except a straight on slide.

Any links to teaching this? Pros and cons?

I think what you're describing (and the "Hook Slide" youtube video link provided) is a slide by. A hook slide traditionally is done with the feet.

IMO

Cons:

If leading with the feet, why let the feet pass the base and hopefully grab it later?
Bat habit as the throw doesn't always come from the same direction. This maneuver should be situational, not standard
Not all bases are the same. Some bases may not be that easy to grab and the player will involuntarily disengage
No advantage if the defender makes a proper tag instead of reaching for the runner.

Pros:

Can move the runner farther away from a tag on a close play.

Also teach the girls to "get flat" when sliding on an anticipated tag. We have girls that do this and almost always are safe. If the girls slide in in a sitting position they get tagged in the torso and are usually called out as the umpire sees a tag made, regardless of where the feet are. We even had the feet hit the bag first, but because a tag was made on the torso the blue called her out. Teaching them to get low or get flat has reduced those calls.
