You see quite often where a local organization that has 6-8 teams will change there name to some larger organization in a different state. A lot of times they will just change the names of a few of there teams and the rest will remain the same. What is the benefit in this if that organization and there facilities and coaches are hundreds of miles away.

If a few teams break off that means they are taking their players and moving from one org to another - happens all the time. Usually because there was some issue between the coaches of the team and the organization, whatever that might be and the players/parents support the move. Maybe there was no issue and the team just feels like they will get more exposure or notoriety moving from Org A to Org B. I'm sure all kinds of promises are made to encourage the move because a new team added to an org increases their earning potential as well as their name/reputation. I want to say all the movement is good for the players but in all actuality it is probably just all about money/power for the organizations - I mean the movement may generate some recruiting opportunities for the players depending on the new org support, maybe 🤷‍♀️

Both the ones I seen recently, all the teams will remain to be controlled by the same people. Just part of there teams will be called another name. Pretty sure the teams with the new names will be considered premier, elite or whatever name you want to attach for the org.

If the independent 8 team Hittin' Kitten Org run by Joe Smo moves to the Big Name Org, 3 of those teams are not going to retain the Hittin' Kitten name while the other 5 take on the Big Name Org name unless Joe plans on keeping the Hittin Kitten Org going while also being involved with the Big Name Org . I doubt Big Name Org would even allow that.

Here is one from Facebook I seen a couple days ago. I have seen several others that basically did the same thing. One local to me did same thing. All the teams still practice at same fields same facility just with different names.

**Exciting News***

We are extremely excited to announce that The Kentucky Chrome organization has reached an agreement with Top Gun Softball to join forces in 2023 and beyond. In a few short years, the Kentucky Chrome program has been built into a powerhouse organization in the tri-state area and has surpassed any and all expectations since conception and is starting to get national recognition. We feel like we have reached the peak of what we can do as an organization to give the very deserving athletes what they need to prepare themselves for their softball future.

While there are several great organizations out there, we feel like the best fit for us is to align ourselves with one of the best in Top Gun. Also a young organization, they have an athlete first mentality and have had unbelievable success in helping young ladies get recruited and find that college home. We are super excited to be partnering up with such a great and talented organization.

We will transition 6 of our teams to Top Gun starting in the spring of 2023.
Kentucky Chrome 07 Ledford - Top Gun 07
Kentucky Chrome 08 Boop - Top Gun 08
Kentucky Chrome 08 Premier - Top Gun 2026 National
Kentucky Chrome 09 Premier - Top Gun 2027 National
Kentucky Chrome 09 Adams - Top Gun 09
Kentucky Chrome 2010 - Top Gun 2010

Kentucky Chrome 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 will remain Kentucky Chrome and become a feeder into the Top Gun program.

If it is just name changes of teams within an organization then more than likely they are trying to develop a hierarchy of teams is my guess. Sometimes there are "premier" level teams and then "platinum" level teams etc. Sometimes different age group teams are have a different adjective behind their name. I'm honestly not too familiar with why but I will say they are probably modeling a little after the PGF model - they have a "Premier" group of teams and then a "Platinum" group of teams. Premier is the highest level with Platinum just behind - kinda like Gold and Silver (not that any team would name themselves Silver).

This looks like most teams will transition to the Top Gun name along with the Top Gun org uniforms etc. For whatever reason Top Gun didn't want the younger teams so those are staying with the Kentucky Chrome organization and won't be managed by Top Gun. The little girls will get the opportunity to move up if they improve as they age but will like stay in KY and play local tournaments. Basically even if the same people are managing the KY based teams - the ones under the TG umbrella likely will have different rules they have to follow with those teams but they can run the KY named teams however they want.

I stand corrected. Odd that Top Gun didn't want the younger ones (eg their $$) although it might be that they don't actually have any 8U or 10U divisions in their org.

My impression on this topic...

In the land of big-name organizations there are so many teams within them it just got water down and the organization name is just a name now.

People get attracted to the Big Shiny object. If something seems new it may attract some people but in the long run no benefit. It's just a logo on a Jersey.

If you're really looking for a boost in status, play on a team with dedicated people who do workouts on their own and play better softball.

Reputation is what we make of it.
Not what we buy into.
