Completely agree Rad. I love the fast paced game. Love the home runs. Love true triple threat slappers. Also agree that instead of tinkering with bats when USSSA started this bs, the low hanging fruit would have been the ball specs.

Did you play in the 40’ pitching distance era? Seems like moving back to 43’ changed the game more than anything.

Fence could be moved back..too many pop up HR. Personally I think good contact should be rewarded. Oklahoma State is 190 down the lines. Everything else should stay the same.
I have always thought of OK State as a good hitting team but this sheds light….

Yeah, 190’ is pretty ridiculous.

Try doing that with a less active ball.
Wont happen.

Which your post basically says you have never seen how much less flight the old ball had.

There have been some great posts detailing home runs in college sb vs. College baseball.
The #'s are very close to eachother.

by the way when they made those changes pitching move back and the new ball batting averages in fact did grow by an average of 100 points per hitter.
But then again

An outstanding hitter
Back in the day
Was hitting in the mid to upper .200's
.300's was an ELITE HITTER

If home runs are fun why did baseball go to BESR bats in 99 and BBCOR bats in 11? The 1998 CWS was filled with home runs , the final between USC and ASU had a football score.

I thought that college baseball slowed down the bats to protect the pitchers. The exit speed was getting so high that pitchers didn't have a chance.

THANK YOU WESTWIND for acknowledging and connecting this topic!

Yes i played when pitching was 40' feet.
Pitchers letting go of the pitch 35 feet away.
( i would also swear that pitches moved more with the old white ball. Texture ;) )
I have mentioned this also befor.
Batters used to have to make an attempt to get out of the way as a pitch that may hit them. Batters do not have to do that now and it dramatically massively changed pitching locations and took away the inside river.
And created a disadvantage to the pitcher by giving batters bases for no reason.

Another topic close to my heart- I hate seeing a great hitter lean into a pitch. I hate the Neanderthal thinking of hbp being encouraged by coaches and parents. Its stupid and I didn’t buy a ticket to see that.
