Funny how when we receive a compliment about our kids we feel we have to respond with another insight, whether it is good or bad, or scramble to come up with a compliment about their kid. We may even give a nonsensical reply when we're caught off guard. For some of us it is really hard to simply say "Thanks, that's kind of you to say so." and just leave it at that.

It is weird. “Thank you, she has been working really hard” is a perfectly acceptable answer. And that mindset in general could help some in the long run. After just a short time here I’m worried some of y’all are gonna make a Tulsa style news headline in a few years! - I kid(mostly)

Yep, I'm getting better at it though. Last night, at our practice with new TB team a dad came over and said how they were glad my DD was on the team now and said how impressed he was. I fought the urge to say "Yeah, thanks, but..." and did actually simply state "Thanks! Appreciate it. That's very nice. Glad she's on the team." :giggle: Baby steps...

one that is funny but not really. large tourney that takes say 100 teams. pool play results get your team seeded into different brackets that never play each other. So the top 25 teams are Gold bracket, next 25 - Silver, then copper, then bronze.

So, then you see the posting about the Mayberry Elite Hittin' Kittens winning the Slamfest XXu bronze bracket. Congratulations, you finished in 75th place!!!

Yeah, those ones are a mixed bag. Winning the bronze bracket is an accomplishment and depending on the level of talent, may have been really impressive for that team. But yup, it means there were dozens of teams within a few miles of you that could have smoked you quite easily.

Is it just me and Pattar that think our own daughter's suck (not really) and can never do anything right and always need to get better and work harder? 🤪

I never could grasp how so many parents brag non stop about how good their kid is. When another parent says how good my DD is or what she did well, my very first words are, "Thanks, BUT....." and then I nitpick the crap out of everything she does.

I know I shouldn't, but I can't fathom being the other way... Parents, let the kids play do the talking for her/him.

Now, I compliment my kid privately. I do tell her what she's doing well and keep things "mostly" positive and fun between us. But, i can't gush and go on and on like many do in public. lol

I'm both. I know my DD is good. But she's not that good.

I know two parents who have daughters who get cut trying to get on the same team as my DD. They both sincerely think that their DD will play on the Olympic Team. Seriously. I hear them say this and watch other people's eyeballs and responses. It's wild stuff.

Wow! So far down they ran out of precious metals to make the trophy out of! ;)

We once one a Copper Bracket, mostly due to completely throwing the pool/seeding games by letting our P3 and P4 pitch full games. I honestly had to ask "which metal is better, Copper or Bronze?"

I go with "Thanks, it was a fun day." And then yes, I try to compliment their kid. Usually not too hard to recall a good play/hit and mention it.

That’s a good point but remember, competing is fun. If a team is competitive in the silver or bronze bracket and they execute and win it’s a fun accomplishment.

As recently as a couple years ago I was a low single digit golfer. I could win tournaments at my club and would do well during match play. Could I play on tour? No way in the world. But it was fun to compete and win against golfers of my skill level.

I was a single digit golfer until my DD started playing softball. I am taking my golf game back now! I can't even break 90 anymore and more short game is pitiful. My back is always tight and I can't find the fairway like I used to. Just got me a Ping G400 Max instead of a softball bat.

That’s the same reason I stopped playing. Both of my girls play competitive sports (softball and soccer). It got to be too much and I did not want to miss the games on the weekend. You know how much work it is to maintain a low index. I miss it but I would miss seeing them play more.

I got into photography to give me something to do and incorporate into the girls stuff.

Whenever somebody compliments one of my kids in person I simply say "Thanks, they try" That is the best I can muster up and doesn't even really make any sense but whatever.
